A Different Kind of Social Media:
A Look Back at Our Workshop
Last month, we gathered for a workshop called, The Art of Slowing Down where I taught on how to use street photography as a mental health tool, and something truly meaningful happened. One participant said:
“This felt like what social media is supposed to be.”
We used our devices, but instead of scrolling, comparing, or disconnecting…
We connected.
We noticed.
We slowed down.
We saw each other and the world around us in a different way.
what to expect:
By the end of the workshop, you'll have a richer appreciation of how street photography can be used to support mental health, along with a set of photographs that reflect your personal viewpoint. Whether you're new to photography or already have experience, this session is designed to spark creativity and help you connect more deeply with yourself and the world around.
11:00 am | Welcome & Introductions : Mingle & Kick off the workshop. *Light snacks will be provided
12:00 pm | Street Photography Fundamentals : An interactive session covering the benefits, techniques, ethics, and real - world examples of street photography
1:00 pm | Guided Street Photography Walk : Participants will explore the neighborhood independently, capturing images using the techniques discussed.
2:00 pm | Group Discussion ": Review your top images and take part in a round table reflection conversation.
3:00 pm | Closing Reflections
*Workshop could end a little earlier but I want to give participants enough time to share without feeling rushed.
